The change in the manufacturing industry

In demanding hot and cold forming operations, sliding and guide elements made of bronze with solid lubricant inserts often reach the limits of their performance. This is characterised by increased wear and leads to frequent failures, costly maintenance work and therefore high operating costs. Dayton Progress has recognised this challenge as an opportunity to use innovative material science and technological development to offer a solution that is not only more efficient, but also more sustainable.

The solution: composite materials

Our new composite guide and sliding elements are the result of extensive research and development. They are characterised by a significantly reduced coefficient of friction, which minimises wear and significantly extends the service life of the components. Compared to sliding and guide elements made of bronze with solid lubricant, our composite materials offer the following advantages:

  • 3x higher heat resistance: ideal for applications that take place under high temperatures without sacrificing performance.
  • 8x lower weight: Reduction in energy requirements and operating costs due to lower weight.
  • 12x lower coefficient of friction: Significant reduction in wear and extended service life.
  • X-times longer service life: A significant increase in service life compared to conventional solutions, depending on specific operating conditions.
These properties not only enable improved performance, but also significant cost savings through less maintenance and longer replacement intervals.

Your added value at a glance

Switching to composite sliding and guide elements from Dayton Progress offers you many advantages:

  • Flexible production and customised design options: We offer the possibility to manufacture wear products according to your specific requirements (standard or standardised) from DAYComp composite material.
  • Reduced maintenance and repair costs: The robustness and durability of the composite materials minimise downtime for maintenance and repairs, which reduces operating costs.
  • Higher productivity: Longer production cycles without wear part changes increase the productivity of your tools.
  • Longer tool life: The low coefficient of friction of the materials prevents dust and abrasion from sticking, reduces abrasive wear and significantly increases component life.
  • Outstanding function under difficult conditions: DAYComp composite materials remain reliable guiding and sliding elements even under demanding conditions.
  • High thermal resistance: Suitable for applications with high process temperatures due to excellent heat resistance.
  • Reduced CO2 emissions: The lower weight and production in mainland Europe help to reduce CO2 emissions.
  • Cost efficiency with DAYComp: DAYComp sliding plates can be used as sliding partners for unhardened steel or cast iron and enable significant cost reductions in new production.
